Being an English minor, I have been “forced” to attend these Lion Rock Visiting Writers Series events during my time at Central. The first one I attended I went very begrudgingly because I thought it would be super boring. But boy was I wrong!
These events let aspiring writers to catch a glimpse into the world of professionals, or those who have accomplished so much in their lifetime. The stories that these writers have to share are simple amazing.
Take Kercheval for instance. She is the author of twelve books of fiction, poetry and memoir. Her work has earned many awards including the Prairie Schooner Fiction Book Prize, Associated Writing Programs Award in Short Fiction and the Alex Award from the American Library Association. She received her MFA in Creative Writing from the Iowa Writers Workshop.
Kercheval’s work has also earned her fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Radcliffe Research and Study Center at Harvard, the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, the Wisconsin Arts Board, the Corporation of Yaddo and the James A. Michener and Copernicus Society.
In short, you wont want to miss hearing from such an accomplished writer!
