Ahh winter quarter.. Spending most of your days buried under your covers watching season after season of whatever series you can on Netflix or Hulu, and only eating whatever you can find in your pantry so you don’t have to bare the cold (freezing) weather- some call it hibernation, others call it survival… However, while participating in this hibernation can seem great I wouldn’t say it’s too great for one’s mind or body for that matter- there’s so many different events happening on campus that will make the trip outside worth it!
So let me guess, you’re thinking “What in the world is there to do that is better than watching seven episodes of Grey’s Anatomy and eating Top Ramen?” Well, let me tell you! From Open Mic Nights to comedy shows, Student Lobby Day to a condom fashion show, there has to be SOMETHING on the long list of events that appeals to you!
Just about every Monday evening of the quarter is Monday Movie Madness where a newly released movie is played in the SURC Theatre around 7 & 9:30pm for free with your CWU ID! This quarter they will be showing Big Hero 6 (2/2), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Pt. 1 (3/2), and The Hobbit-Battle of the Five Armies (3/16), just to name a few! On January 23rd, NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” finalist, Dan Ahdoot will be here at CWU to put on a show that will have you laughing so hard you’ll cry. Ahdoot performs regularly at LA’s landmark comedy club, the Laugh Factory and is a frequent guest on many shows such as Comedy Central’s “Workaholics” and ABC’s “Super Fun Night”. If you can’t make it to Ahdoot’s show this month, but really want to catch a great comedy show this quarter don’t you worry, there’s more.. “Bad Boy of Comedy” Ronnie Jordan will be at CWU on March 6th! Jordan has opened for comedians like Kevin Hart and Dave Chappelle so be prepared to laugh until it hurts!
Look out y’all, safe sex is gettin’ stylish! 9,000 condoms are on their way here to be featured in CWU’s very first condom fashion show, this is a fashion show that NO ONE will want to miss! As a part of Sexual Health Week, the Wellness Center has given us students a challenge: create an outfit made out of condoms, wrappers and all, and strut your stuff down the runway in your very own creation (don’t worry, the condoms are not lubricated so you won’t be slipping down the runway!) If you and/or a group of friends is interested in designing an outfit for the show visit the Wellness Center in SURC 139 for more details. Don’t think you’re contraceptively creative enough for a challenge such as this? Well, as we highly doubt that, you don’t have to create an outfit to watch! The condom fashion show will be on February 10th at 7pm in the SURC Ballroom, it will be free and open to EVERYONE!
For all those sports lovers out there, don’t miss the Men’s and/or Women’s Basketball games this quarter! Show that Wildcat pride by supporting your fellow Wildcats and watching them kick some butt on the court! And around the beginning of March we’ve got the CWU Rugby team, Softball team, and Baseball team taking the field as well! Oh what’s that? You want to play a sport this quarter? There is so much going on this quarter there’s no way you can say that there’s nothing better than hibernating this quarter! We hope to see all of you Wildcats out and about this quarter, good luck, keep warm and study hard!
