How I Feel About Going to the Gym- “Before Photo”
UNCERTAINTY
Uncertainty can be super scary. Most of us like to know what to expect going into things. When we get to the gym we don’t know where to start, where the equipment is, and what is going to give us the results we are looking for.
COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS
Comparing yourself to others can be a pretty negative experience. Sometimes you feel like you are constantly coming up short. It is unfair to do this to yourself, especially if you are just starting out at the gym.
FEELING OF JUDGEMENT
Most of the time, people are at the gym to workout, not to judge you. If they are judging you, it reflects poorly on them, not on you.
FEELING LIKE YOU DO NOT BELONG
A lot of people feel like they do not belong in the gym because they are not fit enough. But, the whole point of going to the gym is to get fit!
Stomp Out the Fear and Stigma with Weights 101
It is unfortunate that we live in a society where something as simple as going to the gym is stigmatized with judgment. If someone wants to go to the gym, they should feel empowered for wanting to live a healthy lifestyle.
The CWU Recreation Center wants to combat this insecurity and fear with an event called Weights 101.
Weights 101 is a chance for anyone and everyone with a CWU Rec membership to learn proper form and technique when it comes to weight lifting. This event will be in a private, safe, and inclusive setting upstairs in The Cat’s Den. With the help of the Rec Center’s top personal trainers, people will leave more confident and may be ready to try it on their own.
We all know that the gym can be a scary place, but Weights 101 is a great way to get started. Weights 101 will not only teach you what you need to know about weight lifting, but it will alleviate some of these reasons for being afraid to the gym. Once you got to this event and continue going to the gym you will feel more of a sense of belonging. It is just all about taking that first leap.
How I Will Feel After Weights 101- “After Photo”
Once I am done with Weights 101, I will feel confident enough to go to the gym and try the new strength techniques I learned.
Make sure you stayed tuned for the second part of this blog where I talk about how I overcame my fear and the stigma of the gym from the event, Weights 101.
