Introducing Your Hype 2019 Graduates

By Emily Masseth

On Saturday June 8, 2019, we are saying goodbye to our seniors. Below is a little something about each of them and their time at Central.

Daisy Hernandez, CWU Hype Writer

“Work hard in silence, let your success be your noise.” – Frank Ocean

Daisy is graduating from CWU with a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Journalism with a Specialization in Broadcasting and a Minor in Spanish.

Plans after graduation: My plans after college include looking for a job either as a content writer or a journalist.

Favorite memory while working at CWU Hype: My favorite memories at Hype are being surrounded by so many friendly people, and coming to work at a fun and happy environment.

Advice for incoming freshman: My advice for incoming freshmen is to get out of your comfort zone and just have fun. Really cherish your college years, because you will never get them back.

Emily Masseth, CWU Hype Writer

“In a world where you can be anything, BE KIND.”

Emily is graduating from CWU with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations with a Minor in Sports Business, Advertising and participation in the Douglas Honors College.

Plans after graduation: My plans after graduation include finding a job in the public relations field as a content writer. I hope to work for a sports team or women’s empowerment publication one day. I also hope to travel and go to a variety of countries to help those in need.

Favorite memory while working at CWU Hype: I loved coming to work every day because I was surrounded by great and creative people and the staff cared about our wellbeing and success.

Advice for incoming freshman: Get involved as much as you can! I think by finding communities in which you can express yourself, make memories, and bulk up your resume are what college is all about.

Kaitlyn Kurisu, CWU Hype Graphic Designer

“Live a life you’re excited to tell people about.”

Kaitlyn is graduating from CWU with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design.

Plans after graduation: I’ll be moving down to Young Life’s Washington Family Ranch in Oregon to be on full-time property staff. I’ll also be freelancing on the side and starting my own product line.

Favorite memory while working at CWU Hype: Being the hype-dog and getting to ‘Hype’ up all the incoming freshman last year during summer orientation!

Advice for incoming freshman: People are more important than success, have grace and take time for yourself, go out of your way to be kind to others, pursue the things that make you excited to wake up in the morning, take risks and love others well! Also, go to class and work hard because you’re paying for it!!!

Hailey McGraw, CWU Hype Graphic Designer

“Don’t wait until you’re not scared to do the things you want to do. Just do it scared. Even if you’re shaking in your stilettos. Speak up, stand up, and just try anyway.” -Kristy Wright

Hailey is graduating from CWU with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and a Minor in Entrepreneurship.

Plans after graduation: I plan to complete an internship at an advertising agency in Vancouver, Washington for the summer, while keeping up with freelance design and growing my business so I can hopefully do that full-time after my internship.

Favorite memory while working at CWU Hype: My favorite part about working for the CWU Publicity Center is the opportunities that arise from the connections you make with coworkers to the range of diverse projects we are able to be a part of.

Advice for incoming freshman: My advice to incoming freshmen is college is all about the late nights, early mornings, new friends, feeling overwhelmed and misunderstood, questioning your sanity, and in the end being your own cheerleader. Through all the highs and lows that you will face, all of it will be worth it because you will survive and look back on your college experience as being the best years in your life.

Keahiolu Wong, CWU Hype Street Team Member

“If you think you’re crazy enough to change the world, define your purpose, and take a leap of faith.”

Keahiolu is graduating from CWU with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Specialization in Marketing.

Plans after graduation: After school I’ll be continuing to find a place to work where I can start applying the many skills I’ve gained from working at CWU Hype and also in the classroom. I also intend to travel periodically on my own so I can see the world. I love hiking and eating good food so Argentina, Alaska, and Iceland are on my to-do list.

Favorite memory while working at CWU Hype: My favorite memory from my time at the Publicity Center came in 2018 when I had the opportunity to travel to Anaheim with Ricki and Hayley. We had to speak in front of representatives from several universities across the country, and Canada, about who Hype is and what we do. While public speaking is something I’m acquainted with, at the time I had never participated in a presentation that was longer than 15 minutes. This one was 45 minutes, and a great personal milestone. Because we were able to share the positive work we do (and in front of a pretty sizeable audience who were all smiles the entire way through), I felt we fulfilled our purpose and there’s no better feeling than that. That’s what makes that memory so special. Plus we celebrated at Disneyland so…

Advice for incoming freshman: Treat yourself (whenever you can). College is the longest rollercoaster of your life. If you’re stressed or in doubt at any point, you’ll want breaks to give your mind the clarity it needs. Whether it’s cooking a 5-star dinner for yourself or going out of town for a weekend, do it, because you’ll feel at your best all of the time and that’s what you deserve.

Jakob Wachter, CWU Hype Street Team Member

“Dream SO BIG, you get uncomfortable telling small minded people.”

Jakob is graduating from CWU with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre.

Plans after graduation: I’m moving back home to start auditioning for professional theater companies and touring shows in the Salt Lake City area, while also building my YouTube channel! I also plan to continue working in marketing and media, while teaching spinning on the side! Let’s get that bread!

Favorite memory while working at CWU Hype: My favorite memory is the many farm parties I was able to go to in my time here. Also, as an OG Street Team Member, I have seen this office grow so much in four years and I will cherish my time here forever!

Advice for incoming freshman: Take every opportunity that comes your way and don’t hold yourself back! College is such an important (and expensive) journey to self-discovery, so embrace it and embrace who you are…then live it unapologetically!

Aubrey Schultz, CWU Hype Street Team Member

“Don’t treat people as bad as they are, treat them as good as you are.”

Aubrey is graduating from CWU with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre and an Interdisciplinary Honors minor.

Plans after graduation: I plan to attend Idaho State University to pursue a Master of Arts in Teaching.

Favorite memory while working at CWU Hype: Making the CWU Hype Mannequin Challenge video.

Advice for incoming freshman: *read my last blog on the topic!*

Tyrelle Phillips, CWU Hype Wildcat Access

“Get this money.”

Tyrelle is graduating from CWU with a Bachelor of Science Information Technology and Administrative Management, with a Specialization in Web and Database.

Plans after graduation: My plans after graduation are to work at an agency where I will be creating Web Apps and other meaningful experiences on the web.

Favorite memory while working at CWU Hype: My favorite part of being in the Publicity Center is the amount of professional exposure and development the office offers. Not only am I around other aspiring professionals who are on the bleeding edge of their craft, but we remain synced over the course of (sometimes) years as we work on projects as a team and bring that creative energy to the student body on campus.

Advice for incoming freshman: My advice to incoming freshman would be to relax and take everything in before you try and run with what you know. You’ll learn that information is most important. Taking in all that you can about this new chapter you’re starting makes your journey easier and less stressful. Especially if you’re lazy, like me.

Julian Smart, CWU Hype Videographer

“For video I always try to be my harshest critic and I guess you can apply that to other career paths too. I want to be proud of my work but also be able to look at it and realize how much I need to improve.”

Julian Smart is graduating from CWU with a Bachelor of Arts in Film Production.

Plans after graduation: After graduation I hope to find a job in the corporate media field. I would love to work with brands and create content that helps market a company, product or idea.

Favorite memory while working at CWU Hype: My favorite memories from the Publicity Center were shooting different events. It is always fun to attend something and call it work. Other than that, just getting the chance to be creative on every project and try and think outside the box.

Advice for incoming freshman: I’d tell incoming freshman to look for opportunities outside of the classroom that benefit your career. Be creative too, a lot of departments on campus will work with you to mold jobs to your interest.

Thank you all for your hard work and congratulations to all of our seniors!
