On a Mission

The Publicity Center offers a full slate of creative services to promote campus events, programs and departments while providing real world experience to student employees through hands-on skill development, professional mentoring and portfolio development.

Our student-focused Hype team invites students to experience campus life through a variety of student-focused “Hype” platforms including publications, social media, and street team opportunities.

5 Things We Bet You Didn’t Know About Hype

CWU Hype is also known as the Publicity Center

You definitely know us through our social media channels and Street Team stunts, but did you know that we wear two hats?

As the Publicity Center, we partner with CWU departments, organizations and student clubs to promote events. This includes everything from event posters and social media graphics to radio promotions and press releases. We create the weekly Hype that lives inside of the SURC’s bathroom stalls, and even operate the digital screens throughout the SURC!

Our team is made up of 18 students and four professional staff members

Yeah, you read that correctly. Eighteen students develop content in our office. We employ designers, writers, videographers, street team members, an office assistant and a digital signage coordinator. These jobs give students professional, hands-on experience that prepares them for fields in design, content, marketing, social media, communications, business and advertising.

We’re older than most of you

The Publicity Center was established in the department of Campus Life in 1997, and has forged relationships across campus and in the surrounding communities to better serve CWU students.

We love stickers

We make new stickers every quarter, and often help other groups design their stickers. Here are a few of the stickers you can currently get from Hype! Stop by when we’re tabling or visit us in the Publicity Center, SURC 272 to grab one!

Bonus: Stop by the Office of Student Involvement in SURC 250 and ask Jeff Rosenberry for one of his get involved stickers.

Every year the Hype team does a farm retreat

Team building is important and we like to celebrate a year of hard work by spending time with baby goats!

Now you know more about Hype! What else do you want to know?
