How to Prepare for an EDM Concert

Calling all ravers and ragers! In case you haven’t heard, Campus Activities and 88.1 The ‘Burg are introducing an exciting new event this quarter: Electropolis Live! From 9 p.m. to midnight on Feb. 22, come by the SURC Ballroom to rave with your fellow Wildcats

If you’re new to the EDM scene, you might be a little intimidated. I’m here to tell you that you’ve got nothing to worry about. I can’t teach you how to shuffle, two-step or running man, but I can teach you how to look the part of a seasoned raver!

At a concert like this, be bold and dare to express yourself. Experiment with color, get jazzy with accessories and go nuts with funky patterns. There are many ways for you to show off your unique style, so let’s break it down.

The Basics

I couldn’t possibly stress this enough: wear comfortable shoes! You need to be able to cut loose and dance freely. Functionally festive shoes are essential.

Opt for closed shoes so your toes don’t get trampled, because nothing brings the vibe down more than smooshed toes. Flat sneakers or boots will be your best bet in this case, trust me. You want to be able to dance, jump, shuffle and stomp!

While we’re on the note of basics, earplugs should also receive an honorable mention. Do yourself a favor and preserve the integrity of your eardrums. Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to hear the music!

Accessories

Another pro tip: Accessorize like there’s no tomorrow! You know the super funky hat that doesn’t quite go with any of your casual, everyday outfits? Wear that hat.

Got some groovy eyewear? Those are a must. Plus, shades can be a very practical choice with bright flashing lights during the concert. Kill two birds with one stone and protect those peepers of yours while you get funky!

Add even more practicality to your ensemble by wearing a fanny pack. Avoid the risk of losing your belongings, things falling out of pockets, having to dig through a stuffed backpack or holding everything in your hands. With a conveniently compact fanny pack, your essentials are only a quick zip away!

Bring the Whole Crew

Friends never let friends rave alone. It’s not allowed, plain and simple. So, gather the gang together and gas each other up for an electrifying night of fun! We all know it’s easier to be confident when you’ve got a trusty companion by your side.

Have Fun With It

Sparkle, shine and glow! Dress as crazy or as casual as you like. Don’t worry about what anyone may think, you can wear whatever you want as long as you’re comfortable, happy and rave ready!

EDM Etiquette

No shoes, no shirt, no shorts…that’s a problem. Make sure your top, bottom and feet are clothed, please and thank you!

If you must bring a bag, make sure it’s clear. Also, leave the backpacks at home. You’re going to a concert, not your 8AM biology class.

Hydration is important, which is why it will be provided, so you can leave the hydro flask at home! Honestly, if you bring that to an EDM concert, you’re basically begging for a fresh new dent on that beautiful stainless steel. Nobody wants that!

Okay! Hopefully you’re feeling ready and excited for Electropolis Live! The most important thing is that you have a blast, which won’t be difficult, because it’s going to be a pretty dope event! See you there!
